Honestly, this is hardly the new weblog I was looking for. Yes, I was bored of blogspot, I was tired of having a graphic header and a sidebar filled with links to people I don’t keep in touch with, and I wanted fresh content. I’ve always wanted to be an information aggregator, hunting down the coolest things on the interweb and passing it on, but almost all the links I had were second-hand. And then I was inspired in Europe. I saw all these beautiful collages in Berlin, as well as art magazines in Vienna. I wanted huge garish splashes of lime green and hot pink on my page, and words written in courier new. I wanted the edginess of magnetbox coupled with the (sometimes) bold colors of Wired. But of course, there isn’t any ready made template that fulfils those requirements, and I won’t even begin to think of writing code.
WordPress doesn’t give you room to be creative with templates and such. There are two great ones though. One of them is called K2, as seen on binarybonsai, but that needs to be uploaded onto a server. And then there is the succinct Hemingway, which is actually quite common (I’m still using it), but it certainly breaks monotony by putting stuff at the bottom. I haven’t decided if I like it dark or light. The other disadvantage to wordpress is that there is a limit to the number of pictures you can upload. But otherwise, it definitely give you easier control over what your blog looks like.
And so it is, for now.
