Laz Pozas | A Surrealist’s Legacy

6 Feb

The most interesting thing I saw today was a set of pictures that accompany an interview of Margaret Hooks, author of Surreal Eden. The book is about “Edward James: wealthy British surrealist-art benefactor turned rural Mexican architect, demi-god and dreamer.” In Laz Pozas he created his own whimsical wonderland, a city of ruins set in the Mexican jungle. It looks like a set from The Jungle Book or Lost Horizon. I can forsee that a thousand years in the future, archaeologists will dig this place up and wonder what purpose it served, when it actually has none. Add this to the list of 1000 places to visit before you die.

Besides that, it’s absolutely freezing today. Apparently four people died of the cold in the finger lakes region. My room is in the basement and therefore colder, and I even followed the estate management’s advice of shifting the furniture away from the heater, but it’s still about the same. I can’t wait to go to Cancun for spring break.

Today, one of my textbooks came in the mail. It came from china and had some huge stamps (and I mean huge) with Deng Xiaoping’s visage. Very cool. Another thing that cheered me up was watching Scary Mary, the scary version of Mary Poppins.

Mad bored. Don’t know how long I can keep this up. Need more ideas.
