The Moroccan State of Mind/ Part Deux

New itinerary. What Jardin Majorelle (the YSL garden) basically looks like. The 5 hour bus ride from Chafchaoen to Meknes was terrible and I highly unreccomend it.

Notice how “chill” is underlined everywhere. None of the museums really interested us so the only other option in the medina was chilling. Didn’t do much shopping either, though I had wanted to buy a Berber carpet.

Checklists. HY was hungriest for air conditioning. Even though the guidebook said that a/c is a must in Casablanca, we did fine without it. There was a heavy sea mist when we were there. LIES.

BEST HOTEL – HOTEL DE NICE, MEKNES

The only real hotel we stayed at, when we were the most sick. I stayed in bed for about 12 hours, from 8pm to 8am. We booked it because we could not stand

WORST HOSTEL – YOUTH HOSTEL (HOSTELLING INTERNATIONAL), MEKNES

the conditions here. The room was spartan like a prison cell, insects were crawling and flying everywhere, and the toilets were terrible. Terrible. I had to use it so many times.

SECOND BEST – RIAD MASSIN, MARRAKECH

A little hard to find, but not as hard to find as Equity Point Hostel. Many bonus points for having a/c and nice beds.

In Marrakech we ate at the main square where they sold food for like 0.50 euros. We thought food would be a bargain for the rest of the trip. But as the trip wore on and our stomachs got progressively worse, we started going to all the more respectable restaurants.

American Boys were a pair of cousins we met and hung out with. They were 15 and 18 and really funny fellows. There was also an Argentinian guy who bought some contraband stuff for the hookah.

Eurocup was playing on television screens everywhere. Checklist of native food.

View of the medina in Fes. Blue ballpoint pen on paper.

Anna was particularly funny in the shitty Meknes hostel. She folded her sheets into the size of a picnic blanket and curled up in a foetal position. We refused to use the dirty pillows but I accidentally used mine in the morning. HY woke up screaming in the middle of the night when something bit him. 24/6 and 25/6 had no dates because we were in the bus most of the time.

An example of the recording of our expenses. Drawing inspired by a mural. Imagine the blue shaded rooftops to be green.

Final written page before leaving Morocco. Sticker from Hassan II mosque.
